There’s nothing easier than mashed potatoes.
In Berlin, all potatoes are labelled as either mehlig (floury/mealy/starchy) or festkochend (waxy/firm). No guesswork needed, no excuse for messing this up.

Inspired by Jessica, and a lack of cash, I made a dinner from stuff I had in my kitchen. I was also starving, so instead of waiting 40 minutes for lentils and rice, I made this rösti; 5 minutes to prep and less than 10 to cook.
Grated potato, grated onion, held together with an egg, seasoned with salt and pepper, fried in oil and butter. Done like dinner.
